Motif 9 in the Basketmaker III Period
Motif 9 consists of multiple parallel short lines. Usually, these lines are attached to one or both sides of a base line, at angles of roughly 45 or 90 degrees. The base line may be a single centerline, or one side of a polygon.

Only one example of a Motif 9 precursor was observed. Its use of the center circle and four curved bands foreshadows a layout subsequently used on painted BMIII bowls.
