Motif 8: page 1
MOTIF 8
Motif 8 captures single and multiple parallel lines which exhibit angles or curves, but lack appendages and/or fill. It is probably the simplest motif identified on this project. This motif can divide the interior of a bowl either horizontally, as a band below the rim, or vertically, often in conjunction with a center circle. Less commonly, it can form isolated panels.
As of October 2015, more than 100 examples of Motif 8 have been identified in the ceramic collections of 39 sites. Most of these sites contain less than five examples each of this motif. In these instances I have illustrated the ceramics from several sites on a single page; the sites are grouped by state and county, and presented in order by site number. Multiple-site pages are indicated by a single site number (the first in the sequence) followed by a "+".
